What is Proactive Wellness Testing and Why is it Beneficial for Your Dog?
At WagWorks, we are always looking for ways to help you monitor and enhance your dog’s health through preventative and proactive healthcare. This April, we are excited to introduce Proactive Wellness Testing, a comprehensive service designed to provide deeper insights into your dog’s wellbeing and give you peace of mind. This diagnostic bundle includes blood, urine, and faecal tests, helping us detect subtle changes that may indicate health issues even in seemingly healthy dogs.
What’s Included in the Proactive Wellness Test?
Proactive Wellness Testing involves a series of diagnostic tests that cover various aspects of your dog’s health:
1. Blood Test
-
- Haematology: Screens for anaemia, inflammation, and infection.
- Biochemistry: Assesses the function of internal organs like the liver and kidneys.
- Diabetes Screening
- Thyroid Function Test: For dogs over 7 years old.
2. Urine Test
Detects signs of infection and provides important information about your dog’s kidney function.
3. Faecal Antigen Test
Screens for intestinal parasites, including tapeworm, hookworm, whipworm, and roundworms. This test helps ensure your dog is adequately protected and can reveal treatment resistance or compliance issues.
Why Test a Seemingly Healthy Dog?
You might wonder why these tests are necessary if your dog seems perfectly healthy. Here’s why we believe Wellness Testing is an important part of your dog’s proactive healthcare.
-
-
- Peace of Mind: Many health issues show subtle symptoms that are easy to miss. These tests act as a safety net, catching potential problems early.
- Early Detection: Identifying issues before physical symptoms appear can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
- Establishing Baseline Readings: One of the benefits of proactive testing is that it helps establish what is “normal” for your dog. These baseline readings are valuable for comparison in the future. If your dog becomes unwell, we can refer back to these readings and track any changes over time.
- Comparing Results Year-to-Year: By conducting regular wellness testing, we can identify trends and patterns in your dog’s health data. Over time, this allows us to detect any changes early, enabling prompt diagnosis and early treatment of potential health concerns.
-
What Will You Receive After Testing?
After completing the Proactive Wellness Testing, you will receive a comprehensive Proactive Healthcare Pack. This pack will include:
-
-
- A complete list of all test results.
- A clear explanation of what the results mean.
- A personalised interpretation of the results for your dog.
- Recommendations for future testing, based on your dog’s specific needs.
